Its difficult these days to know what a 'responsible
holiday' is - Something I struggle with every time I need a break.
I guess the key is finding a balance - without flying
anywhere you don't get to know other cultures, or start to understand
the world. If like me you've got children you've probably realised that
staying at home is a restrictive option.
Education, Broadening your horizons, understanding
other cultures, getting back to nature and living simply - all these
things are important to me - and to my children - especially in the
21st Century.
"Go sparingly, go well" - a balance can be
struck between the impact and benefit to you - just don't waste the
opportunities! Barefoot Tonga
is just one of those opportunities
"Barefoot
Tonga is the ultimate off grid holiday, offering the opportunity of
having an experience of a lifetime.
This programme
offers you the chance to spend 4 amazing weeks off the beaten track,
getting back in touch with the natural world in a very special part
of the world. Exploring its beaches, corals, sea life and culture, you
will be taught skills for remote eco-living and sustainable survival.
Getting involved in valuable community projects, whale watching and
becoming a qualified scuba diver are also part of this unique month.
The Barefoot team also offer a three and six month
option and are also in the process of setting up a reef research conservation
project in collaboration with the University of the South Pacific.
It’s our aim at Barefoot Tonga for all our visitors
to experience fully the variety and richness of life in the Vava’u
islands. Our policy is for you to enjoy the many aspects of Tongan life
returning home with a wealth of stories but leaving not much more than
a footprint and goodwill. Most of all, we want you to fall in love Tonga
and in doing so, have a great time."
