This Elephant Dung Hand Made Recycled Photo Album contains fair trade paper whose fibres are naturally pulped by elephants, instead of by hand or machine. The hand made paper is a fair trade product of the elephants' digestion. The elephant dung is collected then vigourously boiled with margosa leaves, which are a natural eco friendly disinfectant, then made into paper after mixing with 25% recycled paper. The coarseness and shade of the paper is entirely dependent on the elephants' diet making each photo album's hand made paper sheet unique. We source our hand made paper from the Maximus Elephant Conservation Trust in Sri Lanka, who have their workshop on the grounds of the Millennium Elephant Foundation which is a charity that cares for sick and disabled elephants. We are promoting this eco friendly fair trade photo album to support their work. The more photo albums people buy, the more hand made paper we order, the more money the elephants get. We are helping to educate rural villages that are plagued by elephants eating their crops, after their natural habitats have been taken over by humans, to see elephants as a form of income and not just as a pest. The villagers get paid for collecting dung therefore giving them a reason to live with rather than against the elephants.
